A Lesson From Conor McGregor

Hello, dear one!

Take a look at your circle of influence, your family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, network clubs, and associations, who have grown you and served you the most?

In April 2022, former two-weight champion Conor McGregor was listed as the highest-paid UFC (Ultimate Fighting Champion) fighter of his era.

However, his old social media post resurfaced and caught the world’s attention, and this is what he wrote about Dee Devlin, his long-term partner:

“We’ve been together for 8 years now. We live in Ireland, 30 miles from Dublin, in a rented and unemployed apartment. I don’t work because I spend all my time training.

My dream has always been to be a champion. She believed in me, and despite the lack of money, she made an effort to take care of my diet. I had to eat athlete’s food, and respect food, and she took care of that.

She encouraged me all the way.

When I came home from hard training, without energy, and tired, she always told me: “Conor, I know you can do this.”

And now I earn millions of dollars fighting. In my battles, there are 50-70 thousand spectators. I can buy any car, any clothes, and any house. She didn’t ask for anything, but she deserves what’s most beautiful in this world.

She is always by my side and keeps telling me that I can do anything! If I got to where I am, it’s all thanks to her who never let me down and never left me alone”.

McGregor went on with one secret to his success: Talk about your affairs as little as possible, and then only to the ones who will give you encouragement and inspiration… Often a word or an idea will open a way in the wildness.

Echoing McGregor, Walter P. Chrysler, the CEO of American Chrysler Corporation gave almost the identical tribute to his wife, “Nothing has given me more satisfaction in life than the way my wife had faith in me from the very first through all those years.

It seemed to me I could not make anyone understand that I was ambitious, except Della. I could tell her, and she would nod. It seems to me I even dared to tell her that I intended, someday, to be a master mechanic”.

For every successful person, there is a mastermind behind it.

Self-development guru Mr. Jim Rhon had a famous saying: You’re the average five people you spend the most time with.

If your circle of influence is complacent, you may hinder the discovery of your true gifts. But if you surround yourself with a mastermind group who grows you and serves you, you may leap with tremendous self-fulfillment and contribution to others.

The Bible emphasized the importance of choosing the right people to hang out with.

As compassionate as Jesus, he carefully chose the right disciples to maximize his teaching.

Out of the twelve disciples, Jesus spent more time with Peter, John, and James. As a result, the three disciples received more teachings from Jesus, and their influence on humanity was far more significant than other disciples.

As iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another (Proverb 27: 17). You’ll naturally become wiser in the company of people who consistently raised your consciousness and propel you to your highest good.

Where you are today has been your choice of influencers.

So, where are you going next?

And, who are your mastermind group?
