Story 19:
Some years ago, American business investor Warren Buffett was invited to speak at a business school.
One student stood up and asked him, “ What is a good way to advance in a company?”
After giving some thought with a long pause, Buffett surprised everyone in the room.
“Get comfortable with public speaking,” he explained, “If you can get comfortable speaking in front of a group, it will be your asset for the next 50 years. But if you ignore this skill, it will become your personal liability.”
How did Buffett conquer the fear of public speaking?
As a young and ambitious investor, Buffett realized that the skill of public speaking would open doors for him.
He signed up for a public speaking course, but because he suffered the thought of stage fright, he dropped out of the course before the course even began.
However, quitting wasn’t an option.
He gave it a second try and signed up for Dale Carnegie’s training course for public speaking.
To practice what he learned from the course, Buffet began teaching a small investment class in a college.
By speaking to a small group of students over and over, he slowly built enough confidence that prepared him to speak to a larger crowd later.
When HBO was making a documentary on him, Buffett took the crew to his office and proudly pointed at his Dale Carnegie Course certificate behind his desk,
“In my office, you will not see the degree that I got from the University of Nebraska. You will not see the master’s degree I got from Columbia University. But you will see the award certificate I got from the Dale Carnegie Course.”
Buffet credited the skill of public speaking for giving him an advantage in a competitive business world.
Most of his investors were much older than him, but because of his eloquence and effectiveness with presentations, they purchased his proposed sales.
Lesson:
The skill of effective communication and public speaking opens the door to riches.
In the age of Artificial Intelligence, what are the probabilities of job replacement?
According to January’s Business Insider, just ChatGPT alone could easily replace these 10 roles below. Are you currently in one of them?
1.Tech jobs (Coders, computer programmers, software engineers, data analysts)
2. Media jobs (advertising, content creation, technical writing, journalism)
3. Legal industry jobs (paralegals, legal assistants)
4. Market research analysts
5. Teachers
6. Finance jobs (Financial analysts, personal financial advisors)
7. Traders
8. Graphic designers
9. Accountants
10. Customer service agents
Have you noticed that the medical industry was not mentioned here? Are the current medical roles safe?
For the overly confident nurses, Japan has implemented the use of robot nurses in hospitals for years. Patients are generally happy with nurses who are pleasant in appearance and perpetually cheerful.
As for the business, robot nurses save hospitals the expenses of sick leaves, vacation allowance, and benefits. Plus, the staffing problem is mitigated.
What about doctors?
Well, the Covid-19 saga has taught the public that the majority of doctors have been programmed to follow the government’s orders, instead of obeying the Hippocratic Oath.
Are they salubrious for your health? Can they be trusted again?
As medical technology becomes more advanced, patients can diagnose and heal themselves at home, such as frequency and sound wave healings.
Many cancer survivors have blown the whistle on how they healed themselves naturally after the traditional medical treatment failed them.
So, what is the ONE skill that is still tough to replace?
Effective communication and public speaking!
Business coach Brian Tracy said,
“85% of your happiness and success are determined by your ability to communicate with other people.”
Tracy is also optimistic, “Communication is a skill that you can learn. It’s like riding a bicycle or typing. If you’re willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.”
I can testify to his statement.
Of all the skills I’ve learned, applying the skill of communication and public speaking has significantly increased and expanded my life, not my degrees and certificates!
It’s a hard-earned skill to stand firmly on your feet and quickly articulate in front of others with ease.
However, with this skill, you will land an impossible job, be promoted to an unqualified position, and draw to the best and the highest people. I’ve experienced all of them.
If you want to access more wealth, hone on the skill of communication and public speaking!
The best part?
Companies can take away your job, but not your skill. You get to take it with you wherever you go. It is your imperishable and infallible asset!
If you want more in life, you need to become MORE.
Now, open the money door with affirmations:
I AM a good listener and speaker.
I AM getting more comfortable with public speaking.
I AM growing richer each day honing my communication skills.
Let the money truth be engraved in your heart.
Mastering the skill of effective communication and public speaking is MONEY.
