Are You At A Job Or Work (15/22)?

Story 15:

How was David, a nobody shepherd boy in the Bible, recommended to King Saul who promoted David to pinnacle success?

Look at how David was overlooked at home (1 Samuel 16).

David’s father had so many sons and didn’t even remember David’s existence when the prophet Samuel came to visit.

All his older brothers mocked David for his senseless dreams.

David was left alone in the wilderness to care for the family flocks.

There were many shepherd boys like David in the wildness, so why was David chosen and how was he recognized in the first place?

Young David was talented with his skills!

The Bible said that he was well-spoken and played harp extraordinarily. Both skills demanded self-discipline with a long-term culmination.

While in the wilderness alone and facing unspoken challenges, David mastered his communication skills by speaking to God incessantly.

Through tenacious practice, David developed the most eloquent speeches in deepened faith. The result was in the heartfelt psalms, which still comfort and inspire people today.

In addition to his effective communication, David could heal by playing the harp.

Whenever King Saul felt distressed, David would play the harp to console the king and transcended the king into a problem-solving state.

These two skills positioned David as an irreplaceable contributor; King Saul promoted David to be his armor-bear.

David earned his job security by demonstrating his supreme skills.

It wasn’t King Saul who secured David’s financial life. David was self-confident with multiple mastered skills that he would eventually advance anywhere in Divine time.

Later after King Saul changed his heart on David, David continued to thrive and achieved more success.

Lesson:

Self-mastery aligned with your talents is your ultimate financial freedom.

During the wilderness years alone, David didn’t anticipate meeting King Saul someday, but he worked on the skills that would lead him to the king later.

You’ve been programmed since birth to study hard, get a college degree, and find a secure job to retire.

Well, that model might have worked 50 years ago. We’re now heading toward a tumultuous economic downturn, including job replacement by Artificial Intelligence.

According to Newsweek at the end of December 2023, the U.S. is experiencing massive layoffs in all industries, and “to determine if your job is in jeopardy will likely require you to analyze your own performance at the company…”

While everyone talks about jobs, no one clarifies the difference between a job and your work so that you can be FREE someday not to depend on a job anymore.

Your job is what you’re paid to do. You’re disposable and replaceable at a job.

But your work is what you were born with. It is your gift to the world. Your job may end at any time, but your work stays with you for as long as you live.

You were born with unique gifts. That’s why the Bible asks you to discover your gifts, for your gifts are open doors to your wealth.

Your financial security will never come from a job, but while you’re at a job, are you intentionally developing your gifts?

Recently I met a successful digital investor at an event, he jokingly said, “I have a Ph.D., public high school degree.”

In the 90s, he operated printing machines for corporate brochures and flyers. Every night when he got home, he was tired from long hours of labor.

He decided to learn more skills for a better future.

At the time, the quickest way for him to get out of labor work was to become a salesman, but he was an introvert.

He purchased sales tapes and books, learned many tips to connect with customers, and applied what he learned to solve massive problems at work.

Not only did his valuable input impress his superiors, but his unique connection and care with customers also generated amazing reviews.

While working on the same job, he kept learning and applying new skills. He grew more confident seeing himself selling printing products.

In less than a year, there was a salesman position open in his company, and he got the job.

He began selling printing materials and tripled his income. He continued to grow and build his sales and service muscles.

In less than 10 years, the computer technology replaced the majority of the printing press. His company was finally put out of business.

But he didn’t worry about job security, by then, he could sell anything.

He often shares with his teen children: Don’t get hung up on a college degree; it’s a sheet of paper. Seek knowledge and master skills that will sustain you and weather through any economy.

While working as a laborer, he had no idea he would later become an outstanding salesman. But he prepared himself, taking one action at a time.

As he learned and practiced long enough, he discovered his work, which was to empower people by communicating product information.

If you have a job today, take advantage of it while you’re at it. Perfect current skills and learn new skills. Master as many skills as possible on a job to lose the job eventually.

You’ll know your gift calling when you’re lost in the time zone, feeling energized and fulfilled. It’s effortless for you, and that’s your confirmation of the work that you were born to do.

Money loves high energy. When you share your talents, you emanate happiness and vibrate at a higher energy, which is a magnet to attract wealth.
