Hello, dear one!
Are you aware that you’re constantly and simultaneously hearing two voices, the voice of fear and the voice of love?
When you make a decision, you might not be aware of this truth. But if you pay attention to hearing the inner voice, you’ll elevate your self-awareness.
Recently I attended an annual rodeo show out of the area. While checking in at the hotel, I was tested for my awareness or lack of it.
I had prepaid the hotel room through an online travel site. After patiently waiting in line to check in, the gentleman at the front desk surprised me,
“I don’t see your payment on my computer screen.”
During the rodeo season, all rooms are usually pre-booked in that hotel. I panicked as I watched a line of people waiting behind me, hoping to get a room.
Guilty of holding the line, I still asked, “Is there any way you can double-check my prepaid status with this company?
“No,” He was firm, “Looks like you booked a room without payment. If you want a room tonight, please pay now.”
Exhausted after a long drive and frustrated in front of a group of people staring at me, the fear of not having the room crept in and consumed me.
I voluntarily pulled out my credit card and paid for the room.
After I dragged myself to the hotel room, I drank some water, and my conscience returned.
I chuckled because I realized that I heard the voice of fear!
Okay, I blew it. What could I do now?
I decided to do magic breathing, heaven-and-earth, and about the seventh time, I felt the serenity inside, “The tide of my experience has turned…”
I called the travel site and asked for help. It was that simple!
While I was on the phone waiting for the travel site representative to call the hotel for a resolution, I consciously reminded myself, “Everything is working out in my favor.”
The rep couldn’t resolve the situation immediately because of its complication. Since it was a weekend, she couldn’t reach the right people until the following Monday.
At that moment, my only choice was patience, which has been my challenge.
After hanging up the phone, I chuckled again. This time, I felt a sense of relief in getting to know myself better.
The stoic leader Epictetus couldn’t have said it better for my situation, “Circumstances don’t make the man, they only reveal him to himself.”
Whatever happened in the hotel, it revealed to me the consequences of listening to the wrong voice!
When I heard the voice of fear, I feared my embarrassment in front of a crowd, possibly losing a hotel room, and overwhelming a front desk man.
What could I have done differently if I had chosen to hear the voice of love?
I could have stepped aside temporarily, called the traveling site instead, and allowed the two parties to resolve while enjoying my ease.
Whatever I give attention to lies in power.
Since I listened to the voice of fear, I secured a room temporarily with my credit card. However, this act would only build up my fear muscles for the future.
However, if I dared to listen to the voice of love, it might have taken a few hours to sort out things, or I might have lost a room, but I would have risen in this experience, stronger and more fearless.
No matter how minuscule a decision is, it’s always from fear or love. The difference is your awareness.
In my situation, I learned another lesson about following the voice of fear, which I have done many times in the past.
There is no coincidence in life. If you happen to find this little article, Divine Wisdom is reminding you to raise your awareness when you make the next decision.
Which voice are your hearing now, love or fear?
