Hello, dear one!
Welcome to the same old topic: Money!
The late metaphysics master teacher Louise Hay used to say that money is the hardest subject because it is an inside job.
This was true for real estate agent Larry.
Larry made a career change to real estate sales because he no longer found fulfillment in teaching history in a local high school. He wanted to make more money and have more freedom to control his time.
What was his problem? Larry had trouble selling high-end properties. In addition, after he completed smaller property transactions, he could hardly keep his money. His expenses were overwhelming on the Profit and Loss statements to his accountant.
The good news was Larry understood the value of a coach. He was a team soccer player during his high school years, and he saw the difference his coach made in his growth.
However, he was in for a BIG surprise this time!
Larry’s first 30 days were focused on clearing his money beliefs.
Through strategically planned questions, Larry came to realize that he was afraid of money since childhood. His parents fight over money throughout his growing years.
He was a fan of the cartoon character X men. When he asked his parents to buy him the collectible X men, both denied him and told him how hard it was to make money. He got used to returning home from stores empty-handed.
When he started the first year in high school, he had a growth spurt. Suddenly, his soccer shoes always felt tight every two to three months. He still remembered his mother’s facial expression when he told her he needed a pair of new soccer shoes. It felt heavy and disappointing. The cost of new soccer shoes felt exorbitant to the family.
He always felt the money was hard to come by and not enough for him.
No matter how hard he worked as an adult, after all the mandatory deductions, there never seemed to have enough left to pay his rent, student loans, credit cards, and all the basics. He jokingly called himself Larry Lack.
You get him! He felt lacking most of the time and adopted to his feeling of lack.
Since becoming a real estate agent, he’d resented paying the extra income taxes as an independent contractor. He dreaded himself monthly when the bills came.
Larry was a little reluctant at first by gutsy to admit that he secretly envied men with money. He didn’t think they work hard enough to deserve it. He said they got lucky. What a waste to have a big mansion! How are they going to fill in these empty spaces?
After he heard himself criticizing these “rich men” and recognizing his limited money beliefs, he discovered his breakthrough to unblock the money flow!
In these 30 days, Larry identified his problem with clarity.
He didn’t have a good relationship with money. What he didn’t like could only repel him.
Elegant homes required an abundance of money. Since he feared and resented money, his attitude put up a resistant shield to selling multi-million dollar homes.
Witnessing his money repelling thoughts, Larry was ready to take action.
In the next 30 days, Larry implemented one new activity each week.
Week 1: Increase awareness of abundance.
From the time Larry woke up, he trained himself to appreciate anything that was abundant to him, like running tab water, multiple pens and highlighters in his drawers, a closetful of clothing, boxes of breakfast cereals in the pantry, countless trees, rocks, and house while driving and walking.
He thanked every sunny day because the sunshine was free. He thanked the bills as they came because he was abling the companies to provide services to him.
This new habit of abundance reminder always made him feel good about himself.
Week 2: Visit the nicest department stores and high-end homes.
This action was inspired by a story about shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis. Most people remember him as Jackie Kennedy’s late husband. In the 60s, people used to ask him, “What would you do if you lose all your money?”
Onassis replied, “I’ll get a job. No, three jobs. I will work as hard as I can and spend it all on the nicest restaurant in the city.”
People were puzzled, “Why will you spend it all on one restaurant?”
His answer resonated with Larry, “Because the people in that environment will cause me to rise higher.”
Larry liked that story and decided to visit the nicest department stores and the high-end homes. He wasn’t comfortable at first, but after a few visits, he started appreciating the quality and extra effort that went into designer clothing and homes.
He was learning to make friends with money.
Week 3: Designed a plan to pay bills.
Larry was open to this exercise:
On a blank piece of paper, he drew a line in the middle. He listed all the monthly expenses on the left side, such as rent, gas, and electric bills, water, credit cards, fitness membership, car payment, health insurance, real estate commitment, and student loan.
On the right side, he organized the items according to what he could pay extra first to pay them off.
The first item he picked was the fitness membership. If he paid an additional $13 each month, he could pay it off in 8 months. Wow, he felt instantly liberated!
The next item he picked was his smallest credit card bill. He was determined to pay $120 extra each month and take himself off that high interest. He felt hopeful.
Week 4: Volunteered to work for agents who listed luxurious homes.
Larry contacted the listing agents, both in his office and in the areas, who were selling high-end homes. He offered to hold open houses on weekends, and broker tours on weekdays. He went the extra mile to open doors for the inspectors and contractors for the listing agents.
In the last 30 days, Larry achieved some wins.
Larry made four contacts with homeowners who might sell their luxury homes in the next six to ten months. He scheduled two appointments with two homeowners and made one listing presentation.
His efforts to hold open houses for other agents paid off. During the open houses, he met two qualified buyers who were willing, ready, and able to purchase a high-end home.
More importantly, Larry had slowly developed a feeling of abundance. A sense of well-being with money was growing on him. He began seeing the possibility of money flowing to him effortlessly as he appreciated money more.
When Larry changed his beliefs and attitudes towards money, his sales increased. With the extra money he brought home, he replaced “Larry Lack” with “Larry Magic.”
